i’ve been meaning to tell you for a while now that next month i’ll be teaching for the first time at the new improved Purl store! i used to teach crochet and work in the original yarn shop on Sullivan Street for the first few months it was open (2002 perhaps?) and it [...] we had a blast making sun hats at lena’s on saturday! if you’d like to make one of your own, try my tutorial for a simple one-piece style. or, if you’re not a stitcher, you can always buy one in my shop! the second class i’m teaching in brooklyn this month is a two-hour patternmaking workshop at brooklyn general, in which you’ll draft a pattern for a sleeveless summer shift dress. here are the details: Patternmaking Workshop: Shift Dress Sunday, July 18 10am-12pm $50 In this 2-hour workshop you will learn to draft a pattern for a simple sleeveless shift [...] later this month i’ll be teaching two brand new workshops in brooklyn. the first is a hat-making workshop at lena’s studio in fort greene, in which you’ll make your own pattern for one of my signature *hodge podge* sunhats, then sew one up for yourself! it’ll be a nice introduction to patternmaking, as well as [...] also this month i’ll be back at brooklyn general on sunday the 20th, from 10am-1pm with a brand new class: make your own sunhat! we’ll draft a quick pattern and then whip up these simple reversible hats right on the spot. after that i’ll be hoofing it over the Gowanus canal drawbridge to home ec for [...] next weekend i’ll be in brooklyn again to teach some classes… on saturday, 4/24 i’ll be at lena corwin’s studio for an all-day embroidery and applique workshop from 11-4, including a delicious lunch. the photo above is from our last embroidery class; i love those delicate stitches! and on sunday the 25th, i’m teaching two workshops which [...] here’s my monthly roundup of the classes i’ll be teaching in brooklyn later this month: saturday march 27, 11am-4pm: beginner sewing @ lena corwin’s studio if you want to learn sewing from the very beginning, this one-day workshop is perfect. we’ll learn the nuts and bolts, like threading your machine, good sewing practices, and how to sew [...] 1.
